A Shelter From The Storm

You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall and like the heat of the desert. You silence the uproar of foreigners; as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is stilled. Is 25:4-5 NIV

Have you ever felt like life is just one big storm raging out of control, threatening to sweep you away without a moment’s notice? Like your standing outside in the middle of a hurricane, driving rain coming down so hard you can’t see ten feet in front of you? You have no umbrella, but even if you did, it would do no good because the wind would tear it from your hands. Then the hail starts pelting, its sound drowned out only by the crash of thunder accompanied by a flash so bright it lights up the dark sky and teases you as if it’s going to light the way, but disappears the moment your eyes begin to focus.

What’s your greatest need in these moments? Shelter! You need a place to go where you’ll be protected, where you can get out of the storm and catch your breath, a place where the rain can’t reach you and the wind can’t knock you over. You need God. He is a shelter from the storm. He is the refuge you need in your time of distress. He is the one, the only one who can silence the uproar! He alone can still the storm and quiet the song of the ruthless! When the pressure is intense, and you feel the heat, like the heat of the desert, where there is no shade tree or water, God is the one who brings relief. He is the shade when there’s no other escape. He alone steps in and reduces the heat like the shadow of a cloud on a hot sunny day.

The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.” Isaiah 25:8-9 NIV

God sees your heart breaking, He knows the pain you are enduring. He hears you cry, in fact, Psalm 56:8 tells us that He keeps a record of all your tears. If you have made Him the Lord of your life, He will personally wipe away your tears and remove your disgrace. How can you be sure? He is Sovereign; no one can stop Him from doing what He has promised! He is worthy of your trust today! If He is your God, He will save you! Will you trust Him today? Will you run to Him and allow Him to shelter you from the storm?
