The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.” Exodus 3:7 NIV

You can be completely confident that when you are suffering, God sees your misery and is concerned about your suffering. No tear escapes His notice. He always hears you when you cry out to Him. The children of Israel were in a very difficult situation. They were enslaved in Egypt and they were being treated harshly, forced into hard labor. They did what you and I would do, they cried out to God, and He heard them.

So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. Exodus 3:8-9 NIV

Not only did God hear them crying, He responded as He always does when His children are suffering: He came to their rescue. In His perfect plan, and His perfect timing, God sent Moses to lead the people out of Egypt. They didn’t receive immediate relief and the process was not always easy but those who remained faithful to God through the journey were blessed with the privilege of seeing the awesome power of God and experiencing His miracles first hand.

But the Egyptians mistreated us and made us suffer, subjecting us to harsh labor. Then we cried out to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our misery, toil and oppression. So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders. He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. Deuteronomy 26:6-9 NIV

God’s rescue of His people and deliverance from their suffering in Egypt was amazing. He brought them out with great signs and wonders and He cared for their every need as they journeyed through the desert. He completely changed their circumstances and brought them to a wonderful place to live. As they prepared for life in the new land, Moses made this statement to the people.

“And the LORD has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession” Deuteronomy 26:18a NIV

The God of all creation declared that they were His treasured possession, it really doesn’t get any better than that! If you are a follower of Jesus, God declares the same thing about you.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 2 Peter 2:9 NIV

What ever you face today, know that God has your back because you are His treasured possession!
