Crucified With Christ

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 NIV

If you are a Christian, you probably spent a considerable amount of time this weekend contemplating all that Jesus did for you on the cross, and celebrating with much joy His glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday. Now, as we head into the new week, I challenge you to consider what Paul says in Galatians 2:20. What does it mean to be crucified with Christ? Could it be that just as Jesus completely gave up His life for your sake, you are to completely give up yours for Him?

Is this verse essentially saying that since Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us, we must likewise die to ourselves and allow Christ to live in and through us? Considering what Christ did for us, that sounds like more than a fair exchange to me, and a win-win on every level. We get all the benefits of forgiveness, redemption and a personal relationship with God. And if that’s not enough, He takes up residency in us, giving us His complete attention, focusing on every detail of our lives! Does it really get any better than that?

Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him. 2 Timothy 2:11 NIV

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”  John 10:10 NASB

Here’s the best part; dying to self and living for God is an awesome experience. Jesus came so we could experience abundant life! Where He is there is peace and joy! There is no better life than when Christ is in complete control! Can you say, like Paul, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me?”
