The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8 NASB

Dandelions have to be one of the most resilient and one of the most hated plants in America! Why is that? I’m guessing it’s because they are so hard to control. The wind comes along and blows their seeds in every direction, sometimes as far as 5 miles away! One plant can actually produce up to 2000 seeds. Their ability to reproduce themselves is admirable, yet the very reason people will spend hundreds of dollars to keep them out of their yards.

Yet this hated weed really isn’t bad at all. In fact, I’ve heard that up until the 1800’s, people actually pulled grass out of their yards to make room for dandelions. Considered a powerful superfood, it’s packed with antioxidants that aide in the healing of many diseases. Every part of the plant is useful; its root, leaves and flowers. The Chinese, Egyptians, Romans, Greeks and Native Americans have all recognized its healing properties. So why this lesson on dandelions? Because, I believe, we have much to learn from this powerful little plant.

Everyone who is born of the Spirit of God has a healing message so desperately needed by a lost and hurting world. The gospel is a powerful superfood, a healing balm, whose beauty shouldn’t just be confined to a garden landscape, but who’s seeds should be spread out in all directions. As the Spirit breathes on us, hundreds, if not thousands, of seeds can be sown, so that the gospel is spread and new disciples are born. Don’t just sow seeds where you think they’ll grow best, sow freely into the lives of everyone God brings into your life. You never know where a seed will take root.

We need to be as resilient as the dandelion. No matter how many times we are mowed down, we must stay strongly rooted in Christ! Just like the pressure of a lawn mower helps send the dandelion seeds into flight, we must allow the difficulties of life to make us even stronger and more effective. The testimony God gives you, through your trials, might be just the thing needed to bring those watching your life into the truth. I pray the Holy Spirit breathes on us, blowing seeds in every direction!
