One Will Be Taken And The Other Left

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” Matthew 24:37-42 NIV

I can only imagine the terror that gripped the hearts of those drowning outside the ark as the rain pounded day after day. There was no where to escape and no one to blame except themselves. Noah had warned them for months, but his warnings fell on deaf ears.  They continued in their sin, and lived each day as if they had 1000 more, until the day that Noah entered the ark, God closed the door, and their last decision had proved to be their final one.

Matthew tells us it will be the same way when Jesus returns. Those who are ready will be taken and the rest left. I can’t imagine the terror and regret those who are left behind will experience, especially those who have knowledge of the truth. Many will fall into that category, having heard the warnings time and time again, only to have turned a deaf ear, to have continued in sin, despite the warnings.

How about you? If the Lord were to return today, would you be among those who meet Him in the air or would  you be left behind? This is a topic we will be visiting many times this week. I encourage you to examine yourself honestly and make sure you are ready to meet the Lord.

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
