How Often Does God Think About You?

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! Psalm 139:17-18 NLT

We serve a God that we cannot see with our eyes or hear with our ears, so it’s easy to wonder if He is really aware of the details of our lives. I mean He’s running the entire universe, right? Can He afford the time to focus on me? I’m pretty insignificant in the overall picture. I know He’s my creator, but how much has he thought about me since the day I was born? These are questions most people ponder from time to time, and most certainly questions Satan loves to bring to the forefront of our minds, especially when we are struggling through difficult circumstances.

The psalmist settles the matter when he says the amount of times God thinks about us outnumbers the grains of sand in the world. When’s the last time you sat on the beach and tried to count the grains of sand? You could spend a lifetime trying to count it all and still not come close, there are just too many! That’s how often God thinks about you!

Earlier in this psalm David says this:

O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Psalm 139:1-3 NASB

God is intimately acquainted with all your ways. Take a minute to let that sink in. He is intimately acquainted with all your ways! Everything you think, everything you say, everything you do, your desires, your fears, your dreams, your heartaches; God is personally and intimately acquainted with all of it! He knows you better than anyone. Psalm 44:21 tells us, “He knows the secrets of every heart.

Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, They would be too numerous to count. Psalm 40:5 NASB
