He Masquerades As A Lion, But There’s Only One King!

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. Revelation 5:5a NIV

Ever since the beginning of time, Satan has been trying to steal the hearts of men away from God. But he’s not God and he has nothing to offer us that compares with the blessings we receive when we walk in right relationship with God. Since he can’t match up, he looks at all the wonderful qualities of God and he attempts to counterfeit each one.

And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14 NIV

He cleverly puts on a Godlike mask and hopes we won’t be able to tell the difference! He dangles the pleasures of sin before us, hoping we’ll forget the pain that follows. He’s relentless in his attempts to deceive us, yet he knows the pleasures of sin last for a moment, but the joy of the Lord for eternity.

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 ESV

Satan is a liar, that’s his character, and it’s never going to change. God reveals that to us in His word, so we can walk in the truth and avoid falling prey to his deceptive ways.

In order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. 2 Corinthians 2:11 NIV

We know that he roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour, but let’s not forget, there’s only one King of the jungle! Why does he roam around like a lion? Because he masquerades as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He wants to make you think that he can offer you all that God can, but he can’t. His strength is no match for the strength of our God. I have read the end of the book, and God wins!

Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Revelation 12:7-9 NIV

Will you too be lead astray or will you see Satan for what he is?

What’s he putting in front of you today to steal your heart away from God?
