Only God Can Satisfy

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1 NIV

As David experienced the dry desert heat and the painful thirst that followed, he found an analogy that captured his passionate desire for God and this world’s inability to satisfy him. To express his thoughts, he penned this psalm. We really do live in a “dry and parched land,” don’t we? There is nothing in this world that can bring us satisfaction apart from God, absolutely nothing! Can you relate to David’s thoughts? Does your whole being long for God?

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. Psalm 63:3 NIV

David found the love of God better than anything he had ever experienced. When he felt the unconditional, unwavering love of God, his every desire, as he says in Psalm 63:5, was “fully satisfied.” That’s what God offers you and I, complete satisfaction in Him! But how do we get there; what can we do to experience the love of God in such a satisfying way?

I sing in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 63:7b NIV

The key is to remain close to Him. Never stray farther than the “shadow” of His wings and you’ll benefit from the satisfaction of His love!

I cling to you. Psalm 63:8a NIV

David wasn’t content to just remain in the shadows, He grabbed hold of God and refused to let go! Whatever pulls you away from God must be defeated in your life! The only way to be fully satisfied is to cling to Him!

And while Dave was holding on to God what does he tells us God was doing?

Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:8b NIV

God was holding on to David!
