My Stronghold

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
    of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked advance against me
    to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
    who will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me,
    my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
    even then I will be confident. Psalm 27:1-3 NIV

We all have days when we feel like war has broken out against us; and in a very real sense, it has. Spiritual warfare is real and dangerous. It has the potential to destroy us in far more ways than any of the physical battles we face. David knew the secret place where he could go for safety and protection. God was his stronghold, his source of peace when life was raging out of control! He was the light, when all he could see was darkness!

Is God the stronghold of your life? Can you run to Him and know you will be safe?  If so, then you too, can remain confident when the enemy rises up against you!

One thing I ask from the Lord,
    this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
    and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble
    he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
    and set me high upon a rock. Psalm 27:4-5 NIV

If all I could ask from God was one thing, if I had to boil my greatest need down to just one request, what would that be? I would ask to be ushered into the Lord’s presence, to see Him and gaze upon His beauty….His perfection….His greatness. For when my eyes are upon Him, my fear is gone and I am confident in His protection. In the day of trouble, and we all face trouble, God invites us to run to Him and to enjoy His peace and His protection.

David ends this encouraging Psalm with this word of encouragement:

Wait for the Lord;
    be strong and take heart
    and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14 NIV

Whatever you are going through today, whatever the enemy is bringing against you, find some time to enter the secret place of the presence of God, and you will find His peace will take away all fear.
