“
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27 NIV
In this simple analogy we see one constant; the storm came and beat upon both houses. Difficult circumstances enter the lives of both the righteous and the unrighteous. God does not spare Christians tragic accidents, the death of loved ones, battles with cancer, or any other painful situation simply because they are followers of Christ. But here’s the good news, you do not have to fall apart spiritually and emotionally when these things happen. God has given you, within His word, all the tools you need to stand strong! As you serve Him, and build your life upon the strong foundation He provides, you can face the challenges of life and not be shaken.
The Apostle Paul put it this way: We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NIV
So how do you get to the point when you can stand strong when you are in the midst of a storm? Let the word of God become your foundation. Don’t let it just be something you expose yourself to on Sunday mornings, absorb it every day! Let it dominate your thoughts and change the way you approach life. Study it, memorize it, journal through it. The Bible has the power to equip you to handle all of life’s challenges. It keeps your mind focused on God and allows you to view things through His eyes. Why not determine today, before the next storm rolls in, to firm up your foundation?
