Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Matthew 24:42-44 ESV
If I told you your house was going to be robbed tonight, you would take precautions. How about if I told you it was going to be robbed some time in the next year, but I didn’t know exactly which day? I think you would still take enough precautions to protect yourself and your family. Here’s the bottom line: Jesus is coming back, that’s a guarantee, we just don’t know exactly what day. Why is He coming? To gather those who are living in right relationship with Him. Those who are not taken will be left behind to endure the most difficult time in human history.
For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:2-11 ESV
The Bible makes it clear that Jesus is coming back so there’s really no reason to be caught off guard and unprepared. Keeping His return in the forefront of your mind should help you maintain a lifestyle He approves of. It’s not God’s desire that any of us should suffer His wrath. He has made full provision for the forgiveness of your sins through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. You have the opportunity to walk with Him and look forward to His return. Don’t get distracted and live as if you are of the darkness, unable to see the way. Live instead in the light, seeing clearly the right path He has placed before you and walking in it, so that when He returns, you will be ready to meet Him.
