Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands. 2 Chronicles 14:2-4 NIV
Sometimes doing the right thing involves removing stuff that gets in the way. Activities, relationships or material possessions that lead us astray, distract us from our Christian walk, or steal our affection away from the Lord need to go. Once removed, it’s equally important to divert the attention you gave those things toward seeking the Lord. Drawing closer to Him will satisfy you far more than anything you give up!
The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered. 2 Chronicles 14:7b NIV
We see God’s hand of blessing is many different ways, but one thing’s for certain, He always rewards those who seek Him!
Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with an army of thousands upon thousands and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah. Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.” The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar. Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed before the Lord and his forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder. 2 Chronicles 14:9-13 NIV
At this point in his life, Asa knew the secret of success depended on reliance upon God above all else. He was absolutely right! There is no one like God to help the powerless against the mighty! When God is on your side, you have the advantage, no matter what the odds are against you!
