He exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose. Acts 11:23b ESV
As Barnabas encouraged the new believers in Antioch, he understood the importance of living with purpose. There would be times the faith of these young Christians would be put to the test, as the enemy attempted to confuse them and knock them off track. If they were to make it through those times successfully, remaining faithful to the Lord, it was important for them to determine, from the start, that their lives would be dedicated to God. The time to think through such matters is not in the heat of the battle, but long before the attack arises!
What is your purpose in life? Have you taken the time to think through the importance of remaining faithful to God?
But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind… 1 Corinthians 7:37a NIV
Paul wrote these words in regard to marriage, but the principle applies to every area of life. We gain power over the enemy and spiritual strength when we settle matters in our own hearts and minds. Daniel was a young man who made up his mind early and carried through his commitment.
But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself… Daniel 1:8 ESV
Every decision Daniel faced, was processed in the light of his predetermined purpose, never in light of the emotion of the moment. Those with steadfast purpose have that same ability.
I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. Psalm 119:106 NIV
