Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught. Psalm 55:1-2 NIV
My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. I would flee far away and stay in the desert; I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm. Psalm 55:4-8 NIV
The raw emotions expressed in Psalm 55 remind us that followers of Christ are not immune from pain and heartache. Sometimes life becomes overwhelming and we long for relief! Yet in those times, we know what to do, we know who to call! There’s only one place of shelter when the storm is raging!
As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. Psalm 55:16-18 NIV
God is the one we petition for relief! We get on our knees, day and night, and pour out our hearts to God, knowing that He hears us, confident that He will come to the rescue and deliver us from the battle waged against us!
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22 NIV
God is the one who hold us up and helps us keep it all together. He will NEVER let the righteous be shaken! When we cry out to God, He sustains us!
But as for me, I trust in you. Psalm 55:23b NIV
