“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 NASB
Perhaps instead of trying so hard to fit in with the crowd and to be someone that everyone agrees with, we should be content to be on the same page as the minority who have found the narrow way that leads to life. If what Jesus said is true, and of course we know it is, those who are heading in the right direction will most often find themselves in the minority.
Since it’s the narrow gate that leads to life, how do ensure that we are among the few that find it?
Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:21 NASB
We need to listen for the voice of God, then follow His directions. Make no mistake, God is faithful! He will speak to those who want to hear His voice! Is it an audible voice? Not in my experience. Yet it’s an unmistakable voice that shows you what to do followed by an overwhelming peace when you are on the right track. Ask Him to speak to you. Ask Him to show you the way. Fill your mind with His word so it can be the lamp you need to light your way.
A highway will be there, a roadway, and it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for him who walks that way, and fools will not wander on it. Isaiah 35:8 NASB
Don’t assume you will just wander onto the right path, rather be intentional in seeking it! God promises that those who seek Him, find Him! If you truly desire to follow God and to understand His will for your life, seek Him with a readiness to completely follow what He shows you. It may not be the path you expected, and it may not be the easiest path, but it will lead to your desired destination!
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. Matthew 16:24-25 NASB
