But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6b NASB
On the run from King Saul, rejected by the Philistine commanders with whom he had allied himself, David and his 600 men returned to find their city burned and their wives and children gone. He and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. He was grieving the loss, and to make matters worse his men were talking about stoning him! Have you ever been there? Everything is falling apart and there’s no one on your side, no one offering encouragement or support. You weep until you just can’t weep anymore. That’s the time to strengthen yourself in the Lord! He is always with you. As you call on Him and spend time in His presence, He will give you all the strength you need!
Are you under attack? Find your strength in the Lord! Being treated unfairly? Find your strength in the Lord! Mourning the loss of a loved one? Find your strength in the Lord! Feeling the pressure? Find your strength in the Lord! Crushed under the weight of your circumstances? Find your strength in the Lord! We have the advantage of reading some of the songs David wrote. Check out his frame of mind in the following psalms.
O Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear. Psalm 10:17 NASB
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. Psalm 34:17-19 NIV
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 NASB
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26 NASB
My soul weeps because of grief; strengthen me according to Your word. Psalm 119:28 NASB
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, for You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. Psalm 59:16 NASB
Whatever you are going through today, know that you can find your strength in God. People may have abandoned you or maybe they’re doing their best to encourage and comfort you but it just isn’t enough. Cry out to God and strengthen yourself in Him. He really is all you need!
