The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
David understood that the Lord was his hope. He was the only One who could shine light into the darkness. We all need a stronghold, someone to run to when the enemy is pressing in on us and life is hard to navigate. God wants to be your safe place. When life is hard and you feel like you’re drowning, enter into His presence and you will find protection, direction and salvation.
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
Psalm 27:3 NIV
Whatever battle you are facing, whatever war is raging, you can be confident in God. When He is your stronghold you need not be afraid! Are you positioning yourself in Him? Have you entered into the safety of a close relationship with the God who loves you?
For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. Psalm 27:5 NIV
God is offering your weary soul shelter. He desires to hide you from all harm and to give you the rest you desire. He is committed to setting you upon a rock, a sturdy foundation on which to build your life.
My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. Psalm 27:8-9 NIV
David realized that God, himself, actually is the rock, the firm foundation. Though his sin deserved God’s anger, David prayed for mercy. For God had established a track record of helping David so when the enemy was close at hand, David sought God with all his heart! His hope alone was in God, his Savior!
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:13-14 NIV
Walking with the Lord brings confidence and hope! The key is to wait for the Lord, to put all your trust in Him, and to allow God to guide your life. Is He the stronghold of your life?
