“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. John 4:34 NIV
Jesus had one single focus, to complete the purpose for which He had been sent. The Lord has work for each one of us to finish. He has placed you exactly where you are for a reason. Find that purpose today, and narrow your focus to completing the task. Don’t allow anything to distract you. Our time on this earth is limited, so make the most of every day.
Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. John 4:35 NIV
Sense the urgency in Jesus’ words! Open your eyes and look around you. Who do you have an opportunity to impact today? Far too often we fall into the trap of thinking God will use us down the road, when He desires to use us right now.
Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.” John 4:36-38 NIV
As we journey through life, sometimes we sow and sometimes we reap. Sowing is hard work! It requires diligence, commitment and faith because sower’s plant the seeds, but may never get to see the fruit. Reaping is quite satisfying because we’re part of something successful. Those who reap get the satisfaction of seeing the end result of everyone’s work.
Whether God asks you to sow today or gives you the blessing of reaping a harvest, work hard. Figure out why God has placed you where you are and narrow your focus to accomplishing the task. Open your eyes and look at fields.
