“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 NIV
It is well established, Biblically, that our relationship with God revolves around our daily walk with him. Just as the disciples physically walked with Jesus during his time here on earth, we walk with him in faith.
How important is it that we keep our eyes on him, and the perfect path he creates for us each and every day?
We all know the story of Adam and Eve, they chose the wrong way, as it is written.
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:8-9 NIV
The fall of man was decided from the beginning, so no need to fixate on the fall- if anything the fall brought about a need for our Savior!
Now Peter chose the right path, did he not?”
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:25-31 NIV
Peter had the courage to get out of the boat, but took his eyes off the Lord and the path he had for Peter. It is important to see that we have choices, and that the way we walk will determine whether our path will lead to him, or to a fall.
The good news is, in both examples, the Lord comes to the rescue even though the wrong way was chosen. God was calling for Adam even after Adam chose the wrong way, he then promised to send our Savior. In the waves, our Savior reached out his hand to lift Peter out of the raging waters! Why? Because he loves us, and he loves it when we walk with and towards HIM! As we do, he will always be there to save us and to reach out his loving hands.
Remember it is written:
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:1-2 NIV
