One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ Mark 12:28-30 NLT
Christianity, when boiled down to it’s simplest state, is really about one thing – loving God with all your heart. It’s not about following a long list of dos and don’ts or practicing some complicated religious system. Jesus already did the hard work to give us salvation; now we need to fully engage in our relationship with the Father, the relationship Jesus made possible when He died on the cross.
Would you describe your love for God as passionate?
Do you think about Him more than anything or anyone else?
There are few things that men do with all their heart and soul. Seeking God and pursuing Him at above all else should be one of them.
Are you all in?
Does He matter that much to you?
If your heart is completely His, let this verse encourage you.
For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. 2 Chronicles 16:9a NASB
God is looking for people whose hearts are fully committed to Him. And when He finds someone who loves Him with all their heart He gives them His full support. It really doesn’t get any better than that!
This adds to a SS class discussion we had last class.
We were talking about the possibility of Christians turning the lessons of the Sermon on the Mount into a legal list of required behaviors. The foundation of our lives is the loving of God, and all else follows/flows from that!
