“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. “ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV
Comfort – “a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint.”
Isn’t that the state we all want to be in? We want to experience comfort and we want to provide comfort to others when they are in despair.
As is always the case, we find that which we desire in our Lord.
The psalmist writes:
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23 :4 NIV
Experiencing his presence in the darkest moments of life is the greatest comfort of all, for when he is with us, we have no reason to fear.
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 NIV
I can find no greater comforter than our Lord, who lets me start out every day with this promise!
Then, he adds to this promise eternally when he says, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
We have a great God, a great comforter, and he will always be there!
Let us all be of comfort to one another. Let’s lean on him, in his love and comfort- always !
Remember, “God is love” (1 John 4:8)
