Under Attack?

But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. Psalm 59:16-17 NIV

In the verses leading up to these final verses of Psalm 59, David calls out to God for help against an unfair attack of the enemy. “I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me,” David declares. If you’ve served Christ any length of time, you’ve come to realize that you have a target on your back! Believers have a relentless enemy and he doesn’t play fair!

But here’s the good news, we have a fortress, a refuge in times of trouble! We, like David, can rely on God! We can celebrate His strength, and His amazing love!

So what should we do when the enemy is attacking? Exactly what David did when he wrote this Psalm; we should cry out to God!

Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me. Psalm 59:1 NIV

David, the giant slayer, the mighty warrior, learned that the best weapon at his disposal was prayer! Check out some of his declarations is Psalm 34.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry. Psalm 34:15 NIV

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. Psalm 34:17 NIV

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. Psalm 34:19 NIV

The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. Psalm 34:22 NIV

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4 NIV

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8 NIV

God is good! Don’t let the attack against you discourage you. Rely completely on God. Trust His love for you. Pray. Pray. Pray, and rest assured that He is listening, and He will rescue you according to His plan for your life!
