For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:4-5 NKJV
What does it mean to overcome? A person who overcomes something is one who succeeds in dealing with or gaining control of a problem or difficulty. How important is it that we strive to overcome, and to be a great finisher? It is a resounding theme within the written word of God. Therefore, it must be important to our Lord.
James writes:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:2-3 NIV
During our lifetime, we will face many challenges we need to overcome. Let us not fool ourselves, every one of us is fighting something and many face several difficulties or challenges! The Lord makes it clear through His word that He is aware of what we face and is willing to face these challenges with us.
We are never alone!
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
Our Lord blesses those who overcome. He expects us to battle our challenges, but never alone. He wants us to face whatever has its clutches on us, together with Him. He is aware of our struggles; they do not escape His notice.
He is also grieved to know that many will not overcome. Many will not seek the One who can do all! So why not share these hardships, dilemmas, afflictions, or troubles, with the only One who can help us truly overcome?
It is written:
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 NIV
He wants all of his children to overcome. He gives all of us a chance to be a great finisher. He is just, kind, and righteous. Plainly said, He Is!
He is our King!
Listen to this promise from our Lord:
To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God. Revelation 2:7 NKJV
We are meant to overcome and strive for what awaits us at the finish line
Love one another.
