So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. Hebrews 4:14 NLT
Why are we told to hold firmly to what we believe? Because we have an enemy who is working hard to loosen our grip on everything we believe! He wants to rattle us until he shakes us so hard that we lose our grip, go spiraling downward, and eventually crash completely. I find it comforting that God knows that and loves us enough to warn us about it.
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15 NLT
Think about that for a minute. Jesus understands our weaknesses. Let that sink in. He gets it. He understands. He can relate to the draw of sin. He has experienced temptation. He knows how hard sin pulls at us. But here’s our hope; he found a way to beat it! He had the strength to turn away from it and we can to! How?
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 NLT
We gain the strength to turn away from sin when we bow our knee to God. Jesus is our high priest! He is our advocate who represents us before the Father. We are able to come boldly to the throne of God because Jesus shed His blood to pay for our sins!
Whatever sin you’ve committed, no matter how many times you’ve fallen prey to it, you will find mercy at the throne of God because Jesus is there as your high priest! You will find grace to help when you need it most!
So what are you waiting for?
