“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” Psalms 56:8 NLT
Do you ever wonder if God sees your pain? Does he notice when you cry? He does! And not only does He see it, He keeps track of all your sorrows. Your heartache never escapes His notice!
David was the “apple of God’s eye,” but he certainly had his share of difficulty. He wrote Psalm 56 when he was under siege by the enemy. Fear and discouragement could have easily overwhelmed him, but instead, David found strength in the Lord. We get a glimpse of his mindset as he pens these words.
“But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” Psalms 56:3 NLT
“I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?”
Psalms 56:4 NLT
“My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!” Psalms 56:9 NLT
“For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.” Psalms 56:13 NLT
Just like David, we can choose how to respond when the enemy rises up against us. When all you can do is cry, picture God collecting your tears in a bottle. He cares about you so much that your tears are precious and valuable in His sight. Not one tear is lost or forgotten! Each one represents your pain so each one matters to God! That’s how much he loves you!
Remember God’s promises and put your trust in God, just like David did. As you cling to His promises your fear will fade away. You are a child of God. You have the love and protection of the Father. There’s nothing you need to fear!
Let David’s declaration be your own: “This I know, God is on my side.” Say it again and again until you believe it/ Let those words become your hope, your anthem! Let them drown out the voice of the enemy that speaks doubt, fear and confusion.
Cry out to God for help, put your trust in Him and He will keep your feet from slipping. You can walk in His presence, in His life-giving light.
You are not alone. Your tears are not lost. God is on your side!
