“And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction.” I Corinthians 7:35 NKJV
It’s easy to become distracted as we walk with the Lord. We face the attacks of the enemy, the world, and our own flesh on a daily basis. Never do these attacks come harder, then when we focus our attention on the Lord. These attacks, designed to distract us are never well timed, and are seldom easy to ignore.
The Bible says:
And the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. Mark 4:19 NKJV
God knew from the beginning we would constantly be distracted as we walk with HIM each day. He expected it, and has told us how to fend off these distractions.
It is written:
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. I Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
The prince of this world will use anything that pulls on our heart strings as a means to take our eye off of the Lord, but God always provides us with a way of escape. The key is to stay focused on Him alone!
It is written:
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 NIV
It is very easy to take our eyes off of God, when we are in the midst of these distractions. It doesn’t help that the enemy is incessantly whispering in our ears. We must remember to call upon Christ during these times. He is the answer to every question, and the solution to every distraction. God is good at overcoming, we aren’t!
Remember it is written:
You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Revelation 2:3 NIV
We can overcome, but only through our God. Stay focused on Him! He is worthy!
Remember to encourage, plant, and serve – daily.
