Are We Highly Favored?

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Luke 1:2628 NIV

There are many examples throughout the Bible, where God has called upon the seemingly ordinary or average to do great things.  I might suggest great things in HIS eyes, may not be great things in our eyes.

When Gideon was first called upon, it went like this:

The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
Judges 6:1112 NIV

So the question has to be asked, in Christ are we all highly favored?

Have you been at a point in your walk, where you simply cannot comprehend how much joy the Lord has placed in your heart? How much order is in your life? How you have wanted for nothing? Have you ever asked, “Why me Lord?”  If you have, you’re in great company!

Our Lord anointed David king of all Israel, saved him from several close encounters with death, gave him victory in many battles, and granted him many of his heart’s desires.  He even told David that his house would rule forever!

Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human!” 2 Samuel
7:1819 NIV

David is asking, “Is this your usual way of treating a man? Do you treat all men as well as you treat me?”

He then goes on to say:

“What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign Lord. For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant.” 2 Samuel
7:2021 NIV

These are all good questions. Seeing what the Lord has done for us makes us highly favored, and letting HIM know that we recognize, with contentment, His favor in our lives brings us strength and joy.  I would submit that this acknowledgement is pleasing to our Lord!

Take some time to consider all the good things God has done in your life and realize that you too are highly favored!

Remember to love one another.
