In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:4-5 NKJV
Have you ever tried walking on the beach very early in the morning, before the sun lights up the horizon, under the cover of deep darkness? That was my experience recently, and I realized that with very little light, everything appears to be something that’s its not. Every wave looked like a fish, every sandcastle like a fox, and every lifeguard stand like a group of people. I walk on the beach often, enjoying the sunrise, but as I stumbled along that morning, it was disorienting and hard to get my bearings. Nothing I thought was real could be trusted. That’s what life is like when we walk through this world without Christ. Walking in the darkness is nothing like walking in the light.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. Psalms 139:11-12 NIV
Just like the rising sun turns night into day, Jesus turns our darkness into light. The Light of the world gives us the ability to see truth and discern the way we should live. He gives us insight and takes away our confusion.
Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me. Micah 7:8 NKJV
The darkness is where the enemy lies in wait, to capture or snare they that walk without Jesus, the Light of the world. Since fear is a normal response to darkness, living without Christ opens the door to fear and anxiety. But no one needs to stay in the darkness. Jesus welcomes everyone and hopes that all will choose to walk in Him.
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. I John 1:7 NKJV
With Jesus, there is no need to fear, there is no confusion.
Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.” John 12:35 NKJV
While we walk in faith, walk in the light!
