Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. Luke 5:17 NKJV
The Lord knows that we all face challenges and endure ailments that need healing. This is part of the human experience and no one escapes it. Our wounds can be physical, emotional or spiritual. Throughout His Word, there are so many examples of our Lord’s healing powers. God wants to not only point this out to us, but also to continue to strengthen our faith in Christ through it.
God first establishes himself as our healer in the Old Testament.
He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” Exodus 15:26 NIV
He expressed his desire to heal through the prophet Isaiah.
“I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners, creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the Lord. “And I will heal them.”” Isaiah 57:18-19 NIV
He exhibits his healing through the miracles of Jesus.
And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour. Matthew 9:20-22 NKJV
Our healing starts at the cross.
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 NIV
The healing work God wants to do in my life and your life starts with a personal relationship with God which is available to us because Jesus paid for our sins by shedding his own blood on the cross. We can be healed, forgiven and reconciled to the Father because Jesus was crucified. We can be healed because He was broken!
Finally, it is written:
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalms 147:3 NKJV
I encourage all who read this to let Him heal you!
Be kindhearted, and remember to love one another,
Barnabas
