This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea. Your descendants would have been like the sand, your children like its numberless grains; their name would never be blotted out nor destroyed from before me.” Isaiah 48:17-18 NIV
Do you ever wonder how God feels when we ignore Him and do things our own way instead of His? Isaiah gives us a clue. Like a parent who is forced to standby and watch his son’s life fall apart, simply because He refused to listen to his father’s advice, God is saddened when we reap disaster from the seeds we sow. Every command God gives us is for our good!
God loves His children and desires to bless us with immeasurable peace! Isaiah reminds us that through all the ups and downs of life, we can enjoy well-being and peace of mind, simply by paying attention to the commands of God and living life His way. Like the waves of the sea, His peace can just keep rolling in. And it gets even better…when we follow God, our children are blessed too!
