“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” Matthew 18:19-20 NASB
One of the greatest gifts our Father has given us is the benefit of being part of the family of God! Consider the magnitude of Jesus words to his disciples. Where two or three believers are gathered, Jesus is there! He abides with each of us but something very powerful happens when even two brothers in Christ walk together in agreement! There’s a partnership that supersedes anything the world can offer and it receives acknowledgment from our Father above.
So why is unity in the body of Christ so important to God? Perhaps it’s because we are His representatives here on earth.
“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.” John 17:22-23 NASB
When our relationships are implemented the way God desires, there should be a clear and discernible difference between our bond with our Christian brothers and our connection with unbelievers. There’s a closeness and trust we naturallly develop with our brothers and sisters that simply isn’t possible with those who don’t know Christ. As unbelievers see our commitment to and love for one another, they get an inside look at the love of God.
“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NASB
As we head out to our church services this morning, let us rejoice together and celebrate the support we have within God’s family!
