Just A Bit Of Yeast

He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.” Matthew‬ ‭13:33‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Just a small portion of something can effect many, both for good and bad. When we glorify Christ with this “yeast” we go a long way in advancing the gospel.

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew‬ ‭17:20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Having just a tiny bit of faith will allow others to see you move mountains. It doesn’t always take a huge effort to lift up or encourage those around us, but it is our job.

“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” Proverbs‬ ‭16:24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Even a small amount of biblical knowledge, with a lot of passion for the truth, is enough to plant many good seeds for the kingdom. Conversely, just a small bit of discouragement, or indifference, laid on the heart of anyone can do much damage.

Paul put it this way:

Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? 1 Corinthians‬ ‭5:6 NIV

What we do, what we say, and how we interact in all circles of life impacts the world around us. The enemy, our enemy, will use any slip of the tongue or any voice of our opinion to divide. His mission is to divide and to isolate, and he will succeed if we are careless with the way we present ourselves to others. There is always someone watching!

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs‬ ‭15:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Which of these most aligns us with our Lord’s will?

James gives us this challenge:

Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. James‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We must be cognizant of the fact that anything we say, or do, will have an impact on whomever may be around us at the time it is said or done. We must decide, each day, if we want to lift up those around us, or allow them to be discouraged and divided. I assure you the latter does nothing to advance the kingdom.

Remember to encourage others at all times, plant the seed of the word whenever possible, and to serve God by serving others.

Glorify Him in all things today.
