God’s Nature

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:20 NIV

God has created a world reflective of Him, and his people in his own image.  To continue to further develop our relationship with him requires us to understand his true nature. We must continue to grow in our knowledge of God, though it’s hard to fully comprehend the vastness of God.

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Psalms 90:2 NIV

To understand how big God is, how tremendous and awesome He is, is to begin to realize how well we are provided for and protected. Nothing compares to God!

But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath. Jeremiah 10:10 NIV

Though the earth trembles at his voice, he is full of love and compassion.

“If you stay in this land, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you, for I am grieved concerning the disaster I have inflicted on you.” Jeremiah 42:10 NIV

He is grieved? Our Lord, as magnificent as he is, grieves for us!

To show his love for us, he put on flesh and came to earth in human form. Jesus, throughout his life, and most certainly in his death, continued to model the greatest acts of love and human compassion.

He exhibits this after the death of Lazarus, before he raised Lazarus from the dead.

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept. John 11:33-35 NIV

Our Lord and God has grieved and wept.  The truest of our nature is from Him.  The best news is that despite all of his sovereignty- he loves us!

We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20 NIV

God wants us to seek him, find him, know him, and love Him.

God is love!

How great is our God…..
